With heart disease being the #1 killer of firefighters, it is our job at Food on the Stove to expose our local heroes to healthier ways to prepare the food that they love so much.

As most of you know, fried food increases our caloric intake drastically. When frying, the food absorbs the fat of the oil which can cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol and ultimately lead to heart disease.

On Superbowl Sunday, we donated a brand new #PhilipsAirfyerXXL along with 100 chicken wings to the members of Engine 25 in Southeast Washington DC. This airfryer will allow them to get the fried taste without the fat and guilt. Also, Shanita Johnson of Sassy Cakes of DC made the members a football cake to commemorate the event.

Let’s see what they think . . . .
